Let’s Talk about the Weather

My mom said to me once,

"Grief is like the weather. It's always there, but some days you notice it more than others."

This description made sense to me. It's not like I have ever "gotten over" losing someone fully, just like there is not a day without weather. However, sometimes I notice the weather more, like a large storm, calm breeze, or the sun shining brightly, more than just "average" weather days. Every so often, some predictable times and some not, the grief in my life triggers a storm. However, I'm grateful there is now enough space and healing between the losses in my life that most days the weather isn't as extreme as it once was.

Does this comparison of grief like weather resonate with you? If you have lost someone, how is the weather today? Storming? Calm?

Often the holidays can be the trigger that stirs up this weather, bringing a heaviness along with the joy of the celebrations. As if the winds pick up and bring on a storm (like yesterday in Houston). If you are in the midst of the storm, I encourage you to please hang on, a calm will follow. In the meantime, please join me on Thursday's Candlelight Journaling session. Let's put on our raincoats and ride this thing out together.
