Sarah King Creates from experience

Social Work

When entering college, I lamented the fact that there wasn't a major called "Arts & Crafts".  There was fine art, and I chose that for a bit, graphic design specifically, but found it wasn't what I really loved - getting to create with my hands, and I didn't have the fine art skills to hang in the drawing world. So instead I followed another passion, one for helping and empowering people, which was on the major list as Social Work.

I have served in the non-profit field for almost 20 years, and have had some incredible learning experiences and met amazing people. From serving in organizations supporting people facing homelessness and poverty, at-risk youth, and families with seriously ill children, I’ve learned so much from each client, colleague, and volunteer with whom our journeys have aligned, if even for a season.

Working in the non-profit industry, like many helping professions, can also be heavy. Throughout, I've found my answers to burnout and compassion fatigue, as well as processing grief both inside and outside of work experiences, have circled around physical sports and creative outlets. For nine years, I owned, designed, and operated a fun little line of infant and toddler clothing called Obababy. These garments are hand-embellished with miniature bow ties, neckties, and pockets sewn out of vintage neckties. My spare time was full of cutting, sewing, sourcing vintage neckties for material, and learning the basics of business. I sold Obababy clothing online, popped up at art markets, as well as through four boutiques in Houston, TX and Indianapolis, IN. This was a joyful endeavor, even if starting it was mostly an accidental one. That is a story for another day though ;)

Along the way, I've found that working with my hands creates space for processing and healing in my life. So while I love giving a finished product to a customer, I’ve been able to enjoy the process of creation just as much. Therefore, it's time to let you all experience this as well - it’s too good to keep to myself!

Now I'm following the tug to marry these two loves together, creativity and service. I am so grateful for the opportunity to use my gifts of listening, teaching, and creativity as a healing arts practitioner.  Through Sarah King Creates, I'm sharing the gift that creativity has been for me during many years of healing.  I produce courses and workshops that help people release stress, reflect, reenergize, and innovate through engaging creativity.

Welcome, let’s create together.
