DIY Watercolor Greeting Cards
I’m grateful that my friends and family still accept homemade birthday cards even though I’m past Kindergarten :) Today I’ll share a couple of cards that I’ve made recently, one for a birthday and one for Mother’s Day, but these styles could be used for any reason. One has a marbled look to it and the other uses a floral design. Each DIY design can be created in under 30 minutes.
Marbled Watercolor Card
To make this card, you’ll need these supplies:
Blank greeting card (I used white)
Watercolor paints, paintbrush
Paper towel, water cup
Washi tape or painter’s tape
Pen, Marker, and/or colored pencil (I used a felt-tip pen, brush tip pen, and a colored pencil)

Marbled Watercolor Instructions:
Open up your card and lay it down so the inside of the card is facing the table.
Place two strips of washi tape on the bottom half of the card (this bottom half will be the front cover of a landscape card).
Using two paint colors, make “blobs” all over the page, covering all of the card, blurring the colors together as they touch each other. I also added a dark color once I covered the page to add more dimension.
Wait for the card to dry, about 10 minutes.
Peel off the washi tape.
Draw your letters on for your greeting in pencil. For example, “Happy Birthday”.
Go over your pencil letters with a pen, marker, or colored pencil of your choice. Tip - Canva has a lot of great fonts. To get ideas for how to write the phrase of your choice, try using a Canva template and change the text to say what you need. Use it as a guide when creating your letters.
Make someone’s day special by giving them your creation!
Floral Watercolor Card
To make this card, you’ll need these supplies:
Blank greeting card (I used kraft brown)
Watercolor paints, paintbrush
Paper towel, water cup
2 pieces of card stock paper (1 white, one colored), or 1 piece of mixed media or watercolor paper, and 1 spare sheet of colored card stock paper.
Fine tip pen
gluestick
glue dots

Floral Watercolor Instructions:
Get out a piece of cardstock paper, watercolor paper, or mixed-media paper. Make sure the size you’re using will fit on the front of the greeting card.
Paint the colors on the paper in multi-color circles and leaf shapes that will be the petals of flowers.
Paint green stems and leaves to the scene.
Let the watercolor paint dry, about 10 minutes or less.
With a fine tip pen, add in definition to your painting, adding parts like the center of the flower, lines between leaves, outlines of the petals, shadow on the stem, etc.
Cut out the scene, leaving about a 3 mm margin around it.
Glue the floral scene to a colored piece of cardstock.
Cut out the floral scene, leaving another 3mm margin around the edge.
Stick the glue dots to the back of the floral scene.
Take off the paper backing of the dots, then stick the scene onto the front of the blank greeting card.
Write the inside message and give the card away!
